Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay is the largest one-to-one mentoring program in the nation. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Massachusetts Bay is setting the standard for excellence in the support of volunteers serving as positive role models to kids in their communities. Our service area encompasses 155 cities and towns throughout the Massachusetts Bay area. Thanks to the success of Big Night over the years BBBSMB has been able to increase the number of children we serve. This year as we are in a difficult and uncertain economic climate Big Night supporters will help ensure that our trained professional staff can continue to support children, their families and the friendships they form with caring adult volunteers.
The History of Big Night
Big Night is an annual event that has been consistently named the party of the year by The Boston Globe and The Boston Herald, but the real story is how support garnered through the event allows us to serve children in need. Every year, the event features chart-topping entertainment and fine cuisine created by world-renowned chefs. Past entertainment has included B-52’s, The Bangles, Blondie, Cheap Trick, Morris Day & The Time, Duran Duran, Earth Wind & Fire, Hall & Oates, Kool & the Gang, Ziggy Marley, and Meatloaf. Guests come in costumes to reflect the night’s theme.

This year our featured entertainment is the Steve Miller Band. Known for hits including Fly Like an Eagle, The Joker, Take the Money and Run, and Rockin' Me, the Steve Miller Band was founded in 1966 in San Francisco in the Haight Ashbury District of San Francisco, the Steve Miller Band played at the Monterrey Festival during the famed Summer of Love of 1967. This festival was the first of its kind and spawned Woodstock, voted by Rolling Stone Magazine as an event that forever changed rock and roll. 2009 is the 40th anniversary of Woodstock, and seemed only fitting that during these challenging times that we would want to return to a simpler time for this year's Big Night theme. An era that was defined by peace, love and music, so Fly Like an Eagle to this year's Big Night and return with us to an era of great nostalgia and where simple ideas like peace, love and music are all you need. Thanks to your support the kids will get what they need.
Since 1998, Big Night has raised nearly $16 million, which has helped us serve more than 10,000 children from this effort alone. Guests have Big fun while making a Big difference at this can’t-miss event! Big Night is the brainchild of Jim Pallotta, former Tudor Investment Corporation principal and now Chairman of Raptor Capital Management. Jim was inspired to help Big Brothers Big Sisters make critical strides towards ensuring the healthy development of children throughout our community.
